Digital read and sign
The read-and-sign folder, without the folder.
Every crew room has one: a binder of notices with a signature sheet behind each. It works until someone asks who hasn’t signed, which revision they signed, or for the sheets from another station. SkySign keeps the habit and fixes the record.

Side by side
What the sheet records, and what it misses.
| Question | Paper sheet | SkySign |
|---|---|---|
| Who signed? | A signature, sometimes legible. | A typed name tied to the person’s own signed-in account. |
| When? | A handwritten date, if it was filled in. | A server timestamp. |
| Which revision? | Whatever was in the binder that day. | The SHA-256 fingerprint of the exact file issued. |
| Who hasn’t? | Compare the sheet with the roster by hand. | A live unsigned list for every document. |
| Other stations? | Scanned and emailed, eventually. | The same system, compared group by group. |
| At audit? | Find the binder. | Export a CSV or a PDF report. |
Moving off paper
Retire the binder in four steps.
- 1Step 1
List the live notices
Go through the folder and note what is still in force. - 2Step 2
Issue them in SkySign
Upload each as a PDF, or write it in the editor, with the briefing or read-and-comply statement. - 3Step 3
Tell staff once
Everyone in the chosen groups is emailed, and the notices wait in their list. - 4Step 4
Archive the paper
Keep the old sheets as long as your retention policy requires. New notices go through SkySign only.
The new sheet
The signature sheet, rebuilt as a report.

Keep what works
Familiar for staff, better for managers.
Still a briefing
Use the briefing statement for station notices, exactly as the sheet intended.
Still the team leader’s job
Department and station managers can be Superusers: they see completion by group and nudge whoever is outstanding.
No more chasing paper
Sign-off arrives as people acknowledge, not when the binder comes back.
Worth knowing
- SkySign records an acknowledgement with a typed name, not a handwritten or certificate-based signature.
- Each person needs their own account and email address. There is no shared crew-room login.
- Paper records aren’t imported; SkySign records from the first document you issue in it.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Is a typed name as good as a signature on the sheet?
It records more: the typed name is tied to the person’s own account, with a server timestamp and the fingerprint of the exact file. Whether it satisfies a specific legal requirement is for your organisation and its advisers.
Can staff sign on a crew-room computer?
Yes, as long as each person signs in to their own account and signs out afterwards.
What do we do with the old sheets?
Keep them for as long as your retention policy requires. SkySign starts recording from the first document you issue in it.
Bring us your read-and-sign folder.
Pick three notices from it. We’ll show them issued, acknowledged and reported in SkySign.
